Now what?

Posted by
Spike (not Bristol, United Kingdom) on 29 May 2010 in Animal & Insect.

It was a complicated day, starting with trying to figure out what on earth the adult male sparrow was doing climbing a brick wall, and ending with a slow and very dusty operation to liberate (or evict) this little character from my attic.

Somehow, in leaving the nest, he and his sibling took a wrong turn and ended up in the space above the soffit (the bit on the underside of the eaves). It wasn't an easy decision to try to capture him; but leaving him there would have meant his starving in a few days.

Here he is, coming to terms with brightness and open spaces, just before taking a fluttery flight to a safe spot under a tree. The last I saw him, he'd made his way to a dense conifer at the back of the garden, where he was alternately peeping hopefully for his parents and sampling everything to see what's edible. Can't hope for much better, really.

There's still one up there. I nearly caught both of them, but the other one squeezed away and went to Silent Running. Try again over the weekend, I guess...

Thanks for stopping to take a look.
