Katy did what?

Posted by
Spike (not Bristol, United Kingdom) on 27 August 2011 in Animal & Insect.

I've seen some unusual things on my computer monitor, but I really wasn't expecting this...

Yet there she was, first thing in the morning, sitting on the top right corner of the screen. On reflection, I should have taken her picture there, but the daylight was making her restless and I really didn't want her to go wandering around the house.

I was also surprised because I didn't think they had katydids here (like a grasshopper or cricket, but with very very long antennae). Turns out she's actually known in these parts as a speckled bush cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima). Apparently, they're quite common, just hard to spot on green backgrounds. That would explain it, then. My computer background is dark blue...

Running a bit late today - my connection to the Internet died for 18 hours or so.

Thanks for stopping to take a look.

Wow! What a wonderful visit! This is an incredible shot and I can see why they are so hard to spot. I think the insect world around you is very aware of your talent for catching their best side and seek you out just to get their picture taken! Just beautiful, Spike
