On patrol

Posted by
Spike (not Bristol, United Kingdom) on 28 August 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Late August, and time for the obligatory (attempt to) photograph Southern Hawkers as they patrol the airspace over the dew pond at Westonbirt.

They help a lot by being very curious and regular in their habits; the catch is their uncanny ability to flit away at the first sign of a lens coming into focus. Amazing...

Thanks for stopping to take a look.

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, Portugal

Great photo and it is not easy to catch them while flying.

I've had a go at capturing dragonflies in flight. It is insanely difficult! What's your secret?
