Waverley departs

Posted by
Spike (not Bristol, United Kingdom) on 13 September 2012 in Transportation.

A few moments after yesterday's photo.

The Waverley is the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world (read all about her here). During the summer months, she operates in the Bristol Channel, doing day trips up and down the coast.

It was a complete fluke that I visited Clevedon in time to see her land at the pier for the last time this season. Here she is, taking her last load of passengers back to Penarth.

Thanks for stopping to take a look.

Lovely tones and light, and the pier is quite a spectacle too.

I *love* Clevedon pier! On my one and only visit I arrived just late enough to not be allowed on, had to make do with pics from the beach. Might stick one of those up soon. As for this one, the light is lovely and the paddle steamer a superb addition.

@digitalCG: I only got there after it closed (the people you see on it are guests at a wedding reception), but I suspect the best photo opp's are off it rather than on it. I only went on a whim - hadn't been there for over a decade - but really lucked out: tide, weather, and steamer!

Great colours and serenity...
