And So It Continues

A few feet away, in the middle of the pond, an "older" dragonfly was cruising around, periodically stopping to dip its tail into the water - egg-laying. It's a bit surprising to see this while so many are just emerging (and because I've usually seen this behaviour a couple of months later in the year). If you think about it, though, there's no good reason to wait (biology permitting) and lots of reasons - hungry birds, other dragonflies, bad weather, ... - to get on with it as quickly as possible.
